Things we did
- Single storey wrap-around to two sides
- Knock-through on both sides with supporting steel lintels
- Vaulted ceilings with Velux windows
- French windows
- New kitchen
- Whole house painted and re-decorated
This was a major re-styling of a house which required substantial structural changes.
The ground floor had a wrap-around extension with large sections of the original exterior walls being removed to enlarge the living space. Vaulted ceilings and Velux windows gave extra light to the new space.
The whole house was re-decorated and the new, expanded kitchen was re-fitted throughout.
“I was really concerned at first because you hear horror stories of builders, but we moved out because with the work we were having done it was recommended,” says Clair. “We were told it would take 12 weeks to complete and it took 13 weeks, and that was with us adding extra work on.
“Most days we popped in and the builder was very good at communicating what he was doing, and you could speak to the men he had working with him on a daily basis.”
“It’s opened up the house and it opens up the way you do things as well,” says Clair. “The kitchen tends to be quite a meeting place; when anybody comes they automatically sit and have a chat in the kitchen first and then they come into the living room. It just changes the way you live.”
