With this traditional property, we created extra living space on the ground floor by converting a garage and extended upwards to create two new bedrooms. With the exterior, it was important to match the brickwork and style of the house to make the extension indistinguishable from the original design -shown in the photo in the left corner.
Time taken to complete
A garage conversions is faster to complete than having a new extension built. That’s assuming that your garage is structurally sound. Generally, the faster that your build can be completed, the more cost-effective the project will be for you, and if you do have tight deadlines to meet for completion, then converting an existing garage or outbuilding is the ideal situation.
No impact on Garden space.
Unlike extensions, there is no intrusion on your garden space since the building is already constructed. Unless you wish to add a new patio and re-landscape your existing garden, most of your original plot will remain unaffected.
Conversions are cheaper than extending your home.
The cost to convert your garage is considerably less than the costs associating with building an extension. This is due to the fact that most of the structural work is already completed such as foundations, walls, roof. You may even have electrics and plumbing installed already, both of which will add to cost savings.
