Is a Garage Conversion a Good Idea?

Whatever reason you are looking to create extra living space, whether it’s for a home office -now we’re all working from home more often, or a playroom for the kids, a gym, a cinema room or TV Snug area, a successful garage conversion will provide you with more living space.

Garage conversion Liverpool

With this traditional property, we created extra living space on the ground floor by converting a garage and extended upwards to create two new bedrooms. With the exterior, it was important to match the brickwork and style of the house to make the extension indistinguishable from the original design -shown in the photo in the left corner.

Time taken to complete

A garage conversions is faster to complete than having a new extension built. That’s assuming that your garage is structurally sound. Generally, the faster that your build can be completed, the more cost-effective the project will be for you, and if you do have tight deadlines to meet for completion, then converting an existing garage or outbuilding is the ideal situation.

No impact on Garden space.

Unlike extensions, there is no intrusion on your garden space since the building is already constructed. Unless you wish to add a new patio and re-landscape your existing garden, most of your original plot will remain unaffected.

Conversions are cheaper than extending your home.

The cost to convert your garage is considerably less than the costs associating with building an extension. This is due to the fact that most of the structural work is already completed such as foundations, walls, roof. You may even have electrics and plumbing installed already, both of which will add to cost savings.

Garage Conversions Increase the Value of your Property

A good garage conversion could increase the value of your property by up to 20%. If the cost of converting your garage is less than that value you will be adding, this can be one of the most cost-effective ways to create a new living space. If you have a double garage, then why not consider converting half, so keeping half the space as your parking space whilst gaining an extra room. We would advise asking your local trusted estate agent first to estimate the value.

Premier Building Solutions will survey your garage to determine whether the structure is sound, that your roof is watertight, and that your ceiling height is sufficient once the floor has been built up.

We will discuss your options on internal fit-outs, whether you are looking to include a new kitchen, bathroom, toilet or shower. If you do need electrics, plumbing, and heating installed, our qualified engineers will take care of all of the necessary work.

Regarding any building regulations approval or party wall agreements, we will be able to advise on all aspects and help with notifying your local authority. For new designs and planning, we will organise our architect to carry out a free consultation with you to discuss design ideas and your options. All our meetings are conducted with social distancing measures in place.
